Anthony Elanga and Anthony Gordon both had chances that they failed to convert in the first half.

Aston Villa looked sloppy in play and didn’t create enough chances to cause problems for Newcastle United.

In the second half, Aston Villa improved early on until Ezri Konsa fouled Anthony Gordon when he was through on goal and received a straight red card.

Newcastle United couldn’t find the goal against 10-man Aston Villa.

It was evident that both teams seemed short in their squads.

Newcastle United need to sort out the Alexander Isak conundrum, as they need a striker, which was evident.

Aston Villa haven’t made enough additions to the squad and need more signings before the summer window closes, or they could struggle to maintain challenging for and playing in Europe.
