Premier League 2025/26 Matchweek 1 - Sunderland vs West Ham United

Sunderland 3 - 0 West Ham United

Sunderland are back in the Premier League with a bang.

Jarrod Bowen created the first chance of the game for West Ham United with a shot on goal, but Robin Roefs saved at his near post.

This time, Sunderland’s turn with Habib Diarra is in on goal, and Mads Hermansen saves.

A brilliant team move from West Ham United, with Malick Diouf getting his shot away and a block from Dan Ballard.

In the second half, Sunderland were the team on top with the crowd right behind them.

Up steps Eliezer Mayenda with a header, and Sunderland have their first goal in the Premier League.

Who else but Dan Ballard, one of the heroes of the play-offs, heads the ball in to make it two.

Robin Roefs prevents West Ham United from getting back into the game with a save from a Callum Wilson header.

Wilson Isidor makes it three at the end with a brilliant strike to mark off a great win.

Brilliant debuts for the Sunderland players recruited for this summer, and they have made a difference to the team.

As for West Ham United, I would be concerned with losing Mohammed Kudus this summer and the lack of players bought in so far for Graham Potter.
